This is important because the appropriate format and scope of a home consultation depend on the patient’s condition and the purpose of the visit.

During the visit, the family doctor reviews the patient’s medical history, asks about when and how the symptoms started, discusses any current medications and checks whether similar symptoms or episodes have occurred before. The doctor then performs an in-person examination and assesses the patient’s condition in the context of their symptoms and existing health conditions.

If the patient already has blood test results, ultrasound reports or other examination results, these can be shown to the doctor during the visit. This allows the results to be assessed together with the current symptoms.

Based on the consultation, the doctor determines the next steps. This may include treatment and monitoring at home, adjustment of existing therapy, recommendations for additional examinations or a referral to a specialist. Where appropriate, the family doctor can also explain which symptoms require another consultation or a change in the treatment plan.

At the same time, a home visit has certain limitations. If laboratory tests, instrumental diagnostics or an examination by another specialist are required to clarify the diagnosis, the patient may be advised to continue the assessment at the medical centre. In this case, you can book a family doctor consultation for adults or a family doctor consultation for children.

If the issue can be addressed without a physical examination, an online family doctor consultation may be a more appropriate alternative.

A home consultation is intended for situations when a patient needs an in-person medical assessment but travelling to the medical centre is difficult or impractical. It is not an emergency medical service and is not a substitute for hospital care.

If, while speaking with the administrator or during the consultation itself, it becomes clear that the patient requires urgent medical attention, a home visit will not be sufficient. If there are signs of a potentially life-threatening condition, emergency medical assistance should be sought.

For other situations, a home visit can be a practical first step, particularly when the priority is to assess the patient in person and determine what needs to happen next without requiring them to travel to the medical centre.
