- the amount of discharge does not decrease or suddenly increases;
- discharge becomes thick, purulent, or develops an unpleasant odor;
- the wound edges separate;
- recurrent bleeding occurs;
- the skin around the wound becomes unusually warm or changes color;
- the wound does not show expected improvement over time.
